“Hidden Waterfall” Demo Single Lesson

A beautiful Painting From Rocky Mountain National Park

The next in my list of single lessons I am releasing is the “Hidden Waterfall” demonstration. I liked this demo so much I made a much larger version of the painting later.

   Tip:  tip for comparison painting

You may have often heard someone say put in your lightest lights and your darkest darks and your brightest color, and your sharpest edge right away in your painting.  The reason for this is comparison painting. What you do is you compare other brushstrokes and colors to those  elements already in your painting.

It is so much easier to mix when you compare two colors that already exist on your palette or on your painting than it is to try to pick colors from your setup or your photograph or The Great Outdoors and match them exactly and then put them down your canvas.  It’s much easier to say hey these trees are little bit bluer and a little bit darker than those trees then it’s real easy to mix the exact right color. this of course goes for all types of painting not just landscape painting.

This is one of those tips that is very easy to forget and you continue to try to mix the paint that is in front of you rather than comparing and mixing based on the relationships. When you do adopt this technique painting will become much easier with fewer mistakes.  There is also a video I made about this so check it out below (At Bottom of the Page).

Run time: about 2 hours on one DVD and it can also be streamed and downloaded
